How does the BioSURE Food Intolerance Test work?

When your body is intolerant to a specific food, it generates an immune response and makes antibodies. The BioSURE Food Intolerance Test detects your IgG 1,2,3 & 4 antibodies to a wide range of popular foods.

A food intolerance is an adverse response by your body’s immune system to specific foods. Your body reacts badly to these foodsbecause your immune system or digestive system are out of balance.

This is one of the most advanced food intolerance tests available.

What is the difference between a food intolerance and a food allergy?

A food intolerance is an adverse response by your body’s immune system to specific foods. Your body reacts badly to these foods because your immune system or digestive system are out of balance. Often the foods we eat regularly, as part of our diet, or the foods we crave may be the ones causing us a problem. Eating these foods can make you feel unwell. A food allergy is when the body's immune system reacts unusually to specific foods. Allergic reactions are often mild, but they can be very serious for some people. A food allergy is very different to food intolerance.

There is a great deal of misunderstanding about the differences between an intolerance/sensitivity versus an allergic reaction to food. Being allergic doesn’t mean that you are intolerant and being intolerant doesn’t mean that you are allergic.

How do you develop food intolerances?

Usually when foods move through your digestive system they are broken down into the parts that make them up, such as glucose (sugars), amino acids (protein) and fat, so they can be absorbed, but if your gut becomes bloated or inflammed these components can go into your bloodstream. When this happens, your immune system may see them as a threat and produce IgG antibodies which subsequently cause symptoms such as migraines, inflammation and IBS.

What's the difference between hair strand tests and blood tests?

There is no scientific validity in hair strand testing for food intolerances.

It is not possible to test for antibodies in hair. Hair colouring and bleaching can also interfere with results.

Our food intolerance tests are performed from a simple fingerprick blood sample and analysed for IgG 1,2,3 & 4 antibodies.

How many foods does the test analyse?

The BioSURE Food Intolerance Test analyses IgG antibodies to over 200 different foods, including vegan and vegetarian foods.

How do I get my results?

Your results are returned quickly and are displayed in an easy to read traffic light system format so you can clearly see which foods you have an intolerance to. The colour-coded and personalised food reports clearly show you your most reactive foods.

What are the most common symptoms of a food intolerance?

The two most common symptoms are Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Migraine:
